Learning to Read is Fun follows the phonic approach to reading. In this approach/method the child who is just beginning to read, first learns the “sound of letters” rather than the name of the letters. At the same time a few frequently used sight words are introduced. These are words which require instant, visual recognition of the word as a whole - words such as ‘the’, ‘you’, ‘are’ and so on.
The reading material in each section uses only those words which have been introduced in that particular section. In this way the child is able to read on his own. Being able to read independently enhances the child’s confidence and gives him/her a sense of achievement.
To hold the child’s interest, the reading material often revolves around Moti, the family pet dog. It includes the dog’s likes, dislikes and idiosyncrasies. From this book the child will discover that reading can be easy as well as a lot of fun!
